When floor sanding and refinishing a hardwood floor, only the surface layer of the wood floor is sanded. Floor polishers and orbital floor sanders are used to remove fine surface scratches prior to re-coating. If the floor has noticeable dents, gouges, scratches or the finish has worn away, floor resurfacing is required.
